Let me be clear when I say this, some of the levels are garbage but at least the world map looks nice and polished (although you still need to put in levels near those pyramids and on the snowy area).


Also, being lazy with the 1-1 level by not finishing it and making one of the pipes an insta kill kaizo trap... really?

ow, garbage levels? that's bad. could you pinpoint these so I can "ungarbage" them?
by the way the 1-1 level is finished, but the kaizo trap sucks. I'll remove it.

I still think that the levels are nice. Though some improvements can be made. Only a few though. In my criticism, I try to be honest, and kind. The game which I honestly think has the "worst" level design is The Adventures of Mad. (If the developer of that game is reading this, please don't be offended). Mostly because the tileset's don't fit.

I agree with Mechasaur if considering what he didn't like but also I agree that a word called "carbage" or such is not making anybody smarter about what is wrong exactly. He also describes a bit about what he didn't like and gave even some good pinpoints about the project so this comment is not the worst also but words that are simply unpolite and insulting are really unnecessary. :)

I like how you make the levels. Sorry for not responding sooner! I accedently ignored this topic! I think you should keep doing frequent updates. When I get bored of building, I like to check the explore. Usually, I find nothing. So finding something new, is always my kind of thing. I think my game will be pushed to January 2019 because I still need a few more suggestions taken and improve/scrap levels. Honestly, you do better with level design. So this is one of my favorite games on explore

lately, I've been doing very little to no progress. there are... several reasons. and I won't be talking about them, this thread is not about that.
just want to clarify something a bit more.
the game will be finished AT WORST on the 3rd of September. as you should know if you follow the project, September is a month school year starts in my country. but, what I haven't stated before, I moved to another school, placed in a different city. I'm gonna need a bunch of time to settle in, and you can expect me to not be active at all.
so please, if you have anything you want to point out- do it now. otherwise, those fixes will be very, very delayed.

Just saw the video! You really do good work. It's hard to not do good work with PB I guess... But it is exceptional. I'm thinking about doing a "Explore game of the month" type thing. Where I take a look at an explore game and review it. If I like it, It will be explore game of the month. I don't know what I would do for awards...

I figured they are too time-consuming. recording, raw editing and adding text, then exporting can take up to two hours. yikes.

Hey everybody, new update!
besides the obligatory new level, you can include some slight layout changes in Grass world.
in these next days, you'll get a fresh new update every day. I have to keep up my promise, and for the last 6 levels, I have 6 days. these will also include small layout changes, to fix the difficulty (not too easy, not too hard). and I'll probably squish in something PB6.0-related.

My game already has that feature in Land of Dreams. :) My game may be difficult but you don't need to beat any of my levels nor even checkpoint over again when a new update is coming. If you just don't like it in some kind of reason - this is another case, of course.

This comment doesn't mean that I try to attract users away to my own project. Every game is appreciated and Gizgord's one is one of that one that has been updated and working properly. However, if there are nothing else to try out then pick another for some additional playing experience. :)

As I said, here's your daily update!
this update is very similar to the one before - one level added, and some additional fixes to the existing ones.

this new level is placed in a desert and has a neat gimmick. play it and you'll know what I mean.
by the way, I didn't forget to name my levels - now I'm filling in the gaps.

after 1.0 releases, I don't plan to work on any other projects. if anything, I'll be quietly working on Level Mayhem. I have a few ideas left, plus a secret mini-project I had. won't finish it for the 1.0 release, but can be implemented in an eventual update.

tomorrow, more details about the release. see you then. :)

Please make it so that we can choose levels! Instead of unlocking them and needing to re-beat them each time we update!
you can use a teleport nearby spawn to play the newly added level.

this one is smaller than the previous two. I had a busy day, so I made that second bonus stage I hadn't done yet. and I added area boundaries to the overworld.

I'll be honest here... the "new school" transition is harsher than I thought. I wasn't working on my game AT ALL. that's not to say I'm ditching the project, no! that'd be ridiculous, I've put too much work into this to just "not finish it". now it's a good time to do so.
what's left? three castles.
I want to have everything done and posted before October 5th, that is the game and a fancy trailer for it. but you know how my "I want to" turns out, so don't be surprised if something goes wrong.

yes, Im still alive and well. The game needs just a little work (little more than 3 levels tho) and I have nothing to do at this point but putin little effort and finish it.
Im sorry for putting your hopes up like 3 times without an outcome. the game is done before January ends and that is a scientific fact :)

yeah, I wasn't kidding. Level Mayhem is finally getting completed. shocker.  :o
here's a small QnA, maybe this answers some things:

is this a joke?

no. :P

what's left?

practically, 1,5 of a level. although these are castles, so they do take more time to make.
after that, I guess some final testing and cleaning up before sending the game to review.

when?

I don't know, maybe four days? maybe even three? as I said earlier, my goal is the end of
January, but a reeal bummer would need to happen to delay this update to that date.

what comes after?

after I publish the game, I want to upload two videos on Youtube -
-a longplay (or a let's play, doesn't matter) of completing the game 100%, with timestamps for different
worlds and levels. this would go up quickly.
-a trailer/preview, so I can show off the game to people in and outside the community. this can go up
anytime, maybe even not at all. I mean, a trailer would be cool, but it's not needed. who knows if I'll
actually bother to do it or not? :P

what will happen to this thread?

nothing, I guess. I will talk about my game in "Completed Games" thread, so it's accurate.

any upcoming projects?

I'd be confident to say "no". even this (you would think, not THAT time-consuming) game took me...
half a year? and I'm not even finished yet! let's just say, I get burnt out very fast. so unless I have
some total passion projects in mind, it's unlikely.

as I said, if I get a good idea for a game/level, and it's convincing enough - chances are I'll start doing it. I just don't want to promise things beforehand and don't deliver. :))

I don't think Gizgord should make something like ASM nor even CC. I don't find something wrong with Level Mayhem because I don't think TingThing considered that Platform Builder will be used in a way as we do. Level Mayhem is a decent and basic product created with Platform Builder which uses everything that Platform Builder directly allows to make.
If everyone would try to make something complicated which needs some tricking with items, tiles, enemies and so on rather than their own copyright then the Explore wouldn't be that original anymore. I know we previously suggested to improve some look of the levels but Gizgord accepted it. He even gave his own look for the level spots in the map which looks good and now his game will be completed soon.

What else to say? ::) Let's hope he is going to build a new(next) game very soon but it doesn't need to be like CC, ASM nor IGP. A lot of more important would be it would become interesting. :)

Simple Quest is a very good game and even for sure worth of replaying. :) The only thing is that the creator of this game seems to be one of them who posted a bit and then got lost forever.  :-\

Please make a full gameplay test before calling your game as complete! I know that the following error is a Platform Builder error which instead should not exist and allow to run your level in the way you wanted but if you haven't made any too complicated things for your level then always rather try to find some alternatives to do whatever you want! ::) For example, when my crushers didn't appear to a correct position via enemy creation commands, I created items instead and changed those to enemies later which worked because changing commands worked properly also.
Try to explore from your game and find the cause of the error if this error didn't exist previously and contact Ting_Thing! Anyways, before you are doing something then I suggest testing if your method will not cause the error before choosing your method because PB is also in progress yet. If your method will fail then try to look for another way to do whatever you want! ::)

Otherwise, your game has become very interesting looking. :)

Then this error exists in PB from later versions on, probably. ::) I just let you know about the suggestions just in case but reading your reply I see you have done everything possible to be decent. My game may have errors or bugs too even if after that I made my levels those worked properly, who knows.

Anyways, if this error will be fixed then I try to beat your game again. :)

this quick patch fixes a fatal error Alley reported yesterday.
also, small changes to "Under the Swamp" (the underwater level)
and a small change in the overworld. you can skip a level now!

Now I have played your game, beaten it and I can say Congratulations... This game really can be considered as complete considering that you will not add anything else to it and it is considered to be a collection of single levels rather than a certain storyline. I found no fatal errors and found no too annoying bugs. A lot of levels are very well planned and designed and some of those even look like a level from Battle Toads. Less amount of those levels but still a lot of those was that kind of levels that really fits with my personal taste, especially boss fight levels. Boss fight levels have that much effort by you so I even still want to replay those. Those are difficult but worth of tension. :) Those looks like a bit like Power Plant from IGP but you also added much more different effects which are very good. 8)

There are some things that I personally don't like that much. For example, water enemies who act like lava balls that looks like a bit bugged. They jump out from the water and may jump on the bridge where from they never jump back to the water. I am sure those enemies can be improved so they would act like lava balls but who would be killable also. ::)
Tar or water pieces unconnected in the air even if those come from the walls are really not my thing. I know some games have something like this too and one of those are games like SMW but you may want to add special graphics for those tiles so those would look fictional rather than glitchy.
Boss from Greenland is really small and I wanted to know if you don't want to use your own sprites for your bosses. Maybe you wanted to make this boss look small and it is the only boss which is really easy so I can agree with the size but how about 32x50 instead of 32x32 or 50x50? ::)
Those are some of my very small examples which maybe you want to improve.

Long explanation about the cons does not matter. :) I just wanted to be clear but those are very small things that maybe can be called as okay also. But here is one bigger thing... Your game has become to be one of the best games on Explore now but the ending is just a boring built-in ending page. You don't have to use complicated systems everywhere otherwise but don't you want to include a small piece of scene-cut and ending credits to your game? O:-)

I haven't played all of Level Mayhem. I have to check it out soon! I have been playing a little bit of grandmaknapped and Castle Chamber, but I just got my PC fixed after it wasn't working correctly about a week. I just got it fixed a few days ago. And that's why I haven't been posting ASM stuff or really done much here. I have been on the forums almost every day here while it was broken, but it wasn't very active here anyway.

I replayed all fortresses today because those are that good I really wanted a gameplay experience from those once again. O:-) I also found a way how to cheat a boss from snow fortress, however. This enemy can kill himself when dodging bullets by being calm and patient because this boss may strive to no pass the boundaries of the ground height. When he shoots there a very small space so it is a very high chance he kills himself quite quickly and this how I also beat this boss this time. You really should fix it or make this boss die only by tricking him to death. ::)
I also suggest creating your own character look. Your current one is the main character from Ting_Thing Example game who is not that skilled in movement.

I as everyone knows, use the default look for Mike in ASM. Some months back I started working on different variations for the other characters. But I have been thinking that I might just have 2 characters. Unless PB gets to allow 4 players to play simultaneously.

well, a month has passed.
I finally picked up LM and recorded the game.
raw footage is 1.5h long, but there is a lot of stuff to cut off. I expect to edit and upload it tomorrow.
after that, I'll start working on a quick update. just changing some parts to improve on the experience. I don't know when that's done, but I sincerely hope it won't be another month...

hey! It's been about a month since any news came out, so I just want to confirm that I am working on 1.1

As stated before, the update will mainly stabilize the difficulty. fixing placements of hazards and coins, changing enemies, etc. they will be somewhat drastic.

there will be a store where you can unlock other designs (and maybe items). I also thought of a "Land of Dreams" kind of thing, but that would be double ripping off from Alley. :)


that's all I will mention. it's not a big update, but it will take a while. until then, later. :P

It's been a while. I promised this update two times, so - three times the charm, I guess.
Contrary to what I said, this update doesn't change level contents. It adds game modes.

This little area serves as a nice resting spot. you can test out your controls and goof around. When you're ready to play,
simply touch the special block.

This gives you two options to choose from. Adventure is the original game, nothing changes here.
On the other half, you have Free-play.

In this mode, all stages are unlocked from the get-go. If you like a certain level,
you don't have to hastle with unlocking it anymore. However as a drawback,
you won't be able to use the shop (which I'll do later, trust me).

That's right. You can spend all of your hard-earned money in exchange for different looks and new abilities.
You can see all of them with their pricing here.



If you're confused about those blocks floating over custom characters - they let you toggle designs however you want for both players.
The red-colored one switches the first player, and the green one is accordingly for player two.
(note that Everything is subject to change. There will be more items in the future, don't worry.)

Next update coming whenever it's ready. Until then, stay tuned. :)

Check out this new checkpoint system!
It checks if you already touched a checkpoint, or if you touched it for the first time. Looks nice.
As you can see, time limit was added to every level (with small exceptions). Better make those seconds count.





Now, I want to cover the Future of Level Mayhem.
Whenever it comes out, Update 1.4 will be planned to be the final version of the game. I want to put in extra effort
to really make this one count. There will be some surprises along the way, so stay tuned for that. ;)

I've been working on LM 1.4, and noticed just how much mess I left. it was initially meant as one package, but I'm splitting it up.

a new patch should fix most problems and offer some (bigger and smaller) design tweaks. that should come out somewhere next week, unless I run into some problems.

a bigger content update will follow. it's harder to estimate how much it'll take, it's probably the biggest update to date. finishing before January sounds nice, but I might be very wrong.

you're initially supposed to bounce of a bullet. the spring acts as a last resort (1 HP left).

Idk if physics changed but I couldn't jump from the bullet and reach the top. I tried it multiple times and I required 16 pixels more to reach.

If you buy a character and then you buy the sword, the melee sprite is the default character one.
Probably fixed by adding the melee and ranged sprite when changing the sprite.

progress on Level Mayhem is going painfully slow. this isn't news to anybody, right? I had an excuse; much like everyone else, I was waiting for PB10.

welp, it's here. beta released. so enough slacking around. I should put that newly found energy to good use and get some serious work done.

I set myself realistic expectations this time - I cut features I deemed unnecessary, decided to shorten The Final Challenge (it didn't need to be this grand to begin with) and make the world feel more.. lived in, you know?

check this out. the overworld map has been updated. every section now has plenty of unlockable paths which unlock new shortcuts. finding new pathways and skipping levels, that was the missing piece. there was only a tiny bit of it in older versions. now that it's here, the overworld is much nicer to traverse and hang out in.

I'm a long way from the finish line, but I will remain stubborn. I want to be done with this game already! cheers and see you soon  ;D

The World of Level Mayhem used to be kinda empty. That's why I decided to populate these levels with some NPCs. When you talk to them, there's a chance they are going to give you a mission.

Completing those missions will reward you with The Final Challenge tokens, which are required to reach the... well, you know.
Four missions are planned and three are already figured out, but not written yet.  8)

hello, builders!

quick heads up, Level Mayhem pre1.4 is available on the Explore section. it features nearly every level improved and optimised for new Platform Builder versions.

please, if you notice something weird/wrong on your playthroughs, share it here.
you'll help me out if you do.

unfortunately, the upcoming version (1.4) will not yet feature TFC, which I hyped up a lot. I'm way behind that.

not to worry though, because 1.4 brings many new, exciting features. some of them I already shared on this page and on our Discord server. it's a big jump for Level Mayhem!

once ready, I'll attempt to release a stand-alone version alongside the Explore release (hopefully there won't be any hiccups! *knocks on wood*  ;D)

Hey everyone, Level Mayhem is entering an another pre-release update: pre1.4(2). You can play it right now on Explore!  8) 8)
There is a lot of differences between this version and the first pre1.4, so I'm gonna keep it brief.

This version doesn't include the 'secret' content, sorry to disappoint you. I might come back to it at a later day.

If you don't own Platform Builder and wish to play the game, check this  Google Drive link (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h_garLRF6KLU0ryiYBYMALcKjkjdbazb/view?usp=sharing) to download the .exe export!
Unfortunately, it's missing a few assets compared to the Explore release. Besides that, they play the same.

Surprise! The latest patch is now live.
Aside from the brand new Accessibility settings, I addressed some sloppy command work and dealt with fatal errors.
