@Christian Game Maker (CGM) @warrior
I'd appreciate if you two took your argument elsewhere, perhaps private messages. I have a feeling that this might escalate into a problem, and I'd prefer my thread not to be the battlefield.

I appreciate the gestures, but I'd like to learn these skills for myself. I will allow opinions, but I want to be able to make that proper art & music myself

I'll get back to working on 'Knight' at some point... Can't really say, I want to improve my skills in pixel art and composing first, as I'd rather have the custom content be self-made than royalty free. I can safely say that it will take a good while, probably a few years at worst

The Simple Quest(2020 2021)

Not to be mistaken with my earlier works.

I'm making & expanding this post as progress comes along. I added (2020) to the title, since I've used the same name more than once prior, and due to circumstances (demotivation, loss of data) have had to restart the project more than once. Each time my aspirations for what I'm doing with Simple Quest change, as such I feel it deserves its' own post.

I will start work on the project again once the PB9 Beta is done.
I upgraded my PC (as a select few might already know), which has increased performance drastically. I can't really play Platform Builder in 30 FPS anymore due to the dramatic difference between the cap and the maximum 144FPS my current computer & monitor output. As such I will be making all my future project(s) 60FPS minimum, which sadly means they might not be accessible to people with old/slow hardware.

What to expect.
Progress will be inconsistent (as usual), which means I'll set the bar relatively low:
- Minimum 20 levels
- Divided in 5 levels per theme (or world, if you prefer that, subject to change)
- Some custom content (Music?, Tilesets? Maybe enemy sprites? Low bar.)
- A simple story. (Or complicated based on what your standard is)

Here's an extremely early idea for a plot:
Spoiler
As with every version of this project, it'll start with the main characters' birthday. The first world will be both a tutorial and a prelude to the actual conflict of the story. BBEG (big bad evil guy) causes havoc, ruining the birthday celebration and increasing stakes by doing something (Maybe stealing a treasured artifact, killing someone... Depending on what kind of story it ends up being). Main idea of the game would be to finish the story, in the victory of the hero and the defeat of BBEG.

(Very minor update: I replayed Simple Quest, and I MIGHT be able to adjust to 30FPS with enough play. I'll still take a good amount of time deciding between 30 or 60 FPS as a default for my projects. Please give me your opinions on which one would be better, thank you.)

07/12/2020 - Start of post.

With the release of PB9, I am now starting progress on the project. It'll be inconsistent but I will be working on it.

15/03/2021 - Getting started..

Frankly, I won't revisit it until I've acquired some proper music and graphical assets to go along with the game. I'll deal with something less resource-intensive in the meantime, just so I don't get completely burnt out.

My old PC got kind of bricked, so I've lost progress on things that I had been working on. It's kind of annoying, but it's mostly just testing things since I've been somewhat keen on procrastinating. Nothing's canceled, just that I have to start from scratch (yay)

Interesting ideas, but I'd like to keep The Knight as the "default" type character. Others I'll try to deviate further from the normal classes, probably by mixing and matching elements from different classes.

I will post a slight teaser now.
I'm looking to go for a fairly specific artstyle, and here's result 1 (may have to zoom in to get a proper look, characters will be scaled more appropriately for implementation of course.

[NOTE: THIS DESCRIPTION IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE]

The Knight was prior to The Calamity, a retired family man. But when the balance of the World was once again at stake, he donned on his trusty helmet in crusade against the forces of Evil

Collaboration / Seeking testers for the foreseeable future.
« on: June 01, 2020, 04:49:25 PM »
I have no set moment for when I need testers, but I'd like to see how many people are willing to help if needed
Simply, I'm asking if anyone's interested in testing my projects in the foreseeable future. Nothing too special, just the basic rules:
1. Forum members only (can't really respond to this otherwise, and I can see more info)
2. Semi-confidentiality (Wouldn't release any information without asking me.)
Nothing else to add. Testers get a mention in the credits section of my project(s).
If you're interested, reply! We'll move to Discord DMs from there for proper discussion.

You really seem to enjoy Simple Quest. May I ask what about it made it so great to you? I can use that feedback to keep certain elements in this next project.

I've understood my mistake. Thank you all for your assistance regardless!

Whatever rebranding was planned is no longer in progress. If I go back to Simple Quest, it'll simply be... Simple Quest.

Works in Progress / New Project - RPG-Style game
« on: May 31, 2020, 07:45:06 PM »
I'm working on something.
I've been experimenting a bit for the last few days or so, and I think I can create something interesting.
For now there's no actual scope, I just want to make something that works 100% first, and the most work will begin once 8.0 is released.
The project will have RPG themed elements, how deep those elements end up being isn't decided yet.
I'll try to come out with a short game at most, maybe a few dozen levels, though I hope to carry this project on over the summer.

Once again, don't get your hopes up. Don't get too excited or anything, since my last few projects ended up being total burnouts.

Update 1: Something's getting done
I've started thinking about this project a bit more seriously. I posted a teaser prior to this update, known as "The Knight".

The game will be a Roguelite-type of game from current looks, possibly featuring:
Randomized levels.
A storyline.
Bossfights.
Progression.
Repeatedly being killed by enemies.

That's all for now.
Update 1.1

Update 1.2
I'm creating all kinds of assets for the project.
Music, Tilesets, Sprites ETC...

As such this project will take longer to release than something like Simple Quest.
I'll also have to practice working with PB (Level design, Commands timeliens etc), as such I'll most likely be releasing a project (Simple Quest successor of some form) during development.

Answered my own question.
To compare variables to one another:
if game var a = [game var b]
using
if game var a = game var b
doesn't work for some reason.
