Completed Games / Level Mayhem enters pre1.4
« on: June 23, 2022, 12:23:01 AM »
hello, builders!

quick heads up, Level Mayhem pre1.4 is available on the Explore section. it features nearly every level improved and optimised for new Platform Builder versions.

please, if you notice something weird/wrong on your playthroughs, share it here.
you'll help me out if you do.

unfortunately, the upcoming version (1.4) will not yet feature TFC, which I hyped up a lot. I'm way behind that.

not to worry though, because 1.4 brings many new, exciting features. some of them I already shared on this page and on our Discord server. it's a big jump for Level Mayhem!

once ready, I'll attempt to release a stand-alone version alongside the Explore release (hopefully there won't be any hiccups! *knocks on wood*  ;D)

see you later and keep on building  8)

General Discussion / Re: PB may move to modern systems?
« on: June 08, 2022, 12:53:41 PM »
This kind of Forum is just old and should be changed completely to a More modern Forum.
old forums were hosted by Tapatalk. the change was explained in the thread I linked below. I checked out the forum engine RPG Maker community uses (XenForo). its pricing starts at 60$/month. that's not a small expense and I'm not convinced it is worth it. meanwhile, simplemachines is free and open-source. maybe there are cheaper options  :o

I suppose there isn't a definitive answer until we experience a new wave of users in the database, and let them choose which platform they prefer. my guess is a forum monitored by the developer and community-based discord (so pretty much what we have now) offers the best balance. but I don't know  ???

Announcements / Re: Platform Builder 10 is Out!
« on: June 02, 2022, 11:12:00 AM »
congratulations to the PB team! it took a while, but I'm happy to finally make it out of the Beta phase

I'm repeating myself, but it has to be said again; new graphics make a BIG difference. along with some nice new features (my favourites as of now are vibrate, FPS target commands, command search, definitely foreground sprites for HUDs).

at this point I'm pretty content with Platform Builder. most of the often requested features (custom HUDs, stand-alones, good controller support, plenty of conditionals, many more) have been added. it feels good. I've been here through most of it, sadly the community is not as robust and active as it was few years ago. CGM and Alley seemingly lost interest, and most of the other guys have moved on to other things. right now I see a good opportunity to inject some much-needed life into this community again. I know, that was the plan all along. spelling it out is kind of redundant. well, the foundation has never been as solid.

sorry, I went for a bit of a tangent. bottom line, I'm very excited for what the future holds for PB :D

bro, those tilesets are incredible. money well spent.  8)
I find acronyms to be kind of cheesy, so I'm not crazy for the level names; albeit the game appears to have nice variety of themes. keep up posted  :o

Suggestions / underwater: hold down to descend faster
« on: April 14, 2022, 12:48:47 AM »
about standard underwater settings; descending down a body of water is pretty slow. holding down doesn't do anything, which isn't intuitive. this is why I opt to use 'top down' most of the time  O:-)

Suggestions / new solution for looping music
« on: April 01, 2022, 11:20:38 AM »
I suggest a new command for playing successive music (playlists if you will).
or better yet, an interface with an audio player where you can choose which part of the song do you want to loop.
I'll be fine with either, what I want is basically a decent way to loop tracks

Suggestions / Re: Default controls for when???
« on: March 03, 2022, 08:46:53 AM »
yeah, that makes sense. it seems weird to expect players to bind controls themselves (when it's mandatory).
for the time being, you could disguise it in an interactive tutorial or something like that

that's great. we'll keep on reporting  8)

Suggestions / Re: Custom block spawn settings
« on: February 28, 2022, 06:46:03 AM »
good suggestion. that's the thing with spawned entities in general; it could be done, but as you said, it's more commands and conditionals to wrap your head around. :-\
the easiest way to achieve this normally is probably to put in custom items with 'permanent' duration. but I'm not confident that works with spawned blocks

Suggestions / Re: This would fix PB lag forever... A compiler
« on: February 26, 2022, 10:28:04 PM »
hello MagnaDev, I'm happy to see you here! how long have you been lurking for, if you don't mind me asking?  ^-^
your take is interesting. take it from someone who doesn't know much about programming. I know that PB is written in GM Studio, I know what .dll's are (I think). I didn't connect the dots.
there is one option we haven't considered. I keep forgetting about Ultimate Platformer Engine. it's a modified 'raw' PB engine, with all of included assets (that they could, it's a legal thing), you just modify it to your needs. rewritten to be easier to edit and filled with comments. so it's not an engine, inside of an engine, inside of an engine; it's just a GMS2 engine. I think it's like 18 bucks, and obviously GMS2 is required... however, it's been years since UPE has seen much/any attention. it's probably stuck at version 8.0 or even 7.0.

Suggestions / Re: Forums are something outdated
« on: February 26, 2022, 03:25:02 PM »
I had threads in mind while writing this. might be the best of both worlds. ATM I think they only allow few days before threads are closed.
I absolutely agree that forums are buggy and kind of hostile. some of us greet and talk to new users but other than that, feels like they've no incentive to come back.. I'm conflicted

General Discussion / Re: About PB features
« on: February 26, 2022, 03:18:03 PM »
the topic of plugins returns.
much like a compiler, if TT chose to implement this feature, it'd certainly take up time and we have no idea whether it'd turn out good or not.
a plugin system sounds fantastic, nearly unlimited resources. but I see three big hurdles. first one I explained above. second, we need someone to actually make plugins. I can't speak for all of us, but know I wouldn't make one. I know nothing about programming. doing this right now kind of assumes we're expecting more power-users to arrive in the future. Right now there's no guarantee. third, are there any legal implications we're not thinking about?
I wonder what's others takes on this :)
