Sprites that rotate along with their collisions would be awesome.

Suggestions / Vines and advanced collisions
« on: October 15, 2019, 08:40:30 PM »
I've had this idea in mind for forever. PB needs a way to create things which your character can swing on. Or some kind of a parenting physics system. Like creating parenting commands to pair a character and an enemy together at a certain pixel spot on the enemy. And have a more complex collisions system. Where enemies have more than one collision spot. And depending on what spot you hit, it will have a different effect. Of course we could do this with other things as well. But we also need a physics system of sorts. Where things can swing back and fourth, and be manipulated by what direction the character/enemy or whatever, is going. I am suggesting this because I have plans to use vines in a world I will create in ASM.

Off Topic / Status Update: Still inactive
« on: September 19, 2019, 02:20:43 AM »
In case nobody noticed, I've been "absent" from the forums lately. I haven't had PB opened in awhile as well. The last time I did have it open, it was for about 5 minutes and only to check out Level Mayhem. ASM is on hold, and I'd like to hand CSB over to someone else. PB has become a low priority, and the forums seem to not be the way they used to be. They seemed to be different a few months ago. People seem to be less considerate when it comes to some things. Simply put, PB has been pushed to the back-burner altogether. For the most part. IDK when I'll get my inspiration back, but I can assure you it will be awhile longer before that time. I plan to get ASM rolling and actually make progress soon. I'm going to write an outline, and organize everything that will be in ASM. I'll need a group of geniuses for that though. Until then, there may be days I don't visit the forums at all. Like the past few days where I come, but don't even read the new messages. If anybody wants to help out with ASM, please contact me via PM on these forums. Any help would be nice. Or if you are interested in taking over Crazy Shape Banzai (CSB) then PM me about that too. Till the day I get my PB inspiration back, I'll be fairly inactive. Anyway, this is Christian Game Maker signing out!

General Discussion / The Missing Pieces
« on: September 04, 2019, 03:30:37 AM »
PB is complete. - Well...Sortof. You can make a game with all of the necessary tools. You can easily make games with pre-built stuff only with simple custom stuff. But when it comes to complex stuff, PB has missing pieces. Those missing pieces are what this topic is about. Here are the ones I can think of. If you find any I missed, let me know, and I'll edit this topic with those things added!
Visual HUD editorFully customizable Menu Creator
GML based commands (I'd like to expound on that a little. Find the * to find out what I want to get into detail on about it)
Custom Character sprites
HD graphic support
Camera zoom
Physics in numbers for all objects
Custom Object creator (all custom item, block, enemy etc combined with GML inspired commands plus more to create fully customizable stuff like in Game Maker Studio 2)
Fully customizable physics and from scratch (done with GML based commands)
I know I've missed a lot. But that's all I could think of. I hope TingThing will refer to this list as it grows. Whenever he adds something, I'll either take it off, or just mark it DONE.  :)

Suggestions / Hide Player*
« on: August 29, 2019, 11:12:10 PM »
Hide players is already a command. But I need a hide player command. Why not just do, "for player 1"?
I would, if it worked. But regardless, it's still just both players. I need "hide player=1"

TingThing has been developing Platform Builder for a long time. I think he needs to take a little break from Platform Builder for a short time, and create a game that will help him understand better how to advertise Platform Builder. From what I see, he often doesn't know how to properly advertise Platform Builder. There is no mention of Command Prompt. Or it's power! There is no mention as to how advanced this program REALLY IS! If I was looking at PB for the first time on the PB website, I'd assume that it was quite limited. When in reality, it's super capable of doing lots of things!
TingThing, I challenge you to test Platform Builder to it's limits! Come up with creative stuff using your best TingThing Productions production yet! I think that if you use Platform Builder, you will see it's true capabilities. It's more than a level editor, more than a level editor with customization! It's the ULTIMATE code-free 2D game development toolkit! You can make more than 2D sidescrollers you know.  TingThing, just make something short, but something that shows how capable Platform Builder really is!
"What about the Example File?"
The Example File was created by TingThing, yet it shows a pretty poor impression of what Platform Builder can really do. It shows Platform Builder's "Mario Maker" side, and not Platform Builder's "Game Maker" side. It only shows the pre-built stuff, with a few commands, and a couple of custom things. But that doesn't show Platform Builder's true colors! It only shows what you can do on a small scale. He could modify the Example File instead of starting from scratch. I honestly don't care.

But the question still remains...Will TingThing accept? Or reject my challange? Do you accept, TingThing?

Sometimes the collision stuff that P1 has to fight through in some situations needs to be removed.

Tutorials / Easy-access pre-written commands
« on: August 27, 2019, 11:17:18 PM »
Do you ever use commands that take forever to write? Do you use the same commands a lot? Well, there is a trick to easily call a list of commands...Easy.
Step #1. Go to Game Setup. You can do this by pressing P from any editor, or clicking on the menu button beneath the test button. Go to timelines.
Step #2. Create a new timeline and set the position to 0:0.1
Step #3. Enter your commands
The next time you need these same commands pulled up, just type in timeline = (ID). The (ID) just means whatever the ID is. Find out about ID's here: https://www.theplatformbuilder.com/Command-Prompt/#FindingID

Suggestions / CPU Programming??? IN command prompt? YES! 7.1 suggestion
« on: August 25, 2019, 05:55:03 AM »
Platform Builder is so advanced, all that TingThing has to do is fill in quite a few missing pieces to make Platform Builder truly...Complete. One of those things which should be added is CPU programming. How? Using timelines, we can check the player's behavior, and create a CPU using either P2 or an NPC. So, we need commands to check certain behaviors. These commands can be used for more than CPU programming, but for other things as well for special events. Commands like,
"If player 1 place free with NPC 12  = x+14"
That conditional checks to see if the NPC is 12 pixles away from the player. If we had conditionals for this for NPC's, items, blocks, enemies, BOY! The things we could do! Depending on how far away objects are, we can tell Platform Builder how those objects behave. For example, if an enemy is 150 pixels away from the player, we can tell the enemy to change to a projectile and then home in on the player. The possibilities are endless. Add this to 7.1, and tons of new options can be created in Platform Builder. I hope to see this taken in 7.1. If not, that's fine. But I hope TingThing at least tries to add it! ;)

(This suggestion is inspired from a line of code from GML code.)

Suggestions / Test only command prompts

Command prompts that are only run during tests would be nice. One for area settings, and the other for every area and so forth.

Off Topic / Taking a break
« on: August 14, 2019, 04:03:08 PM »
I'm taking a break!
I've been working on ASM non-stop, every day for the past few weeks. I think a break is needed. I've lost my inspiration for ASM as well. No, ASM is not dead. I'm taking up another more personal project now that I'll be spending time on. I should get back to ASM in just a few weeks, a few days, who knows! At any given time, I can get back to ASM. So, until then, I'll still be here on the forums, but I just won't be using PB.

We need to be able to spawn sprites either in foreground, or background.

Suggestions / Fire towards
« on: August 08, 2019, 02:46:20 AM »
For projectiles, I'd love for projectiles to "fire towards mouse," or fire towards certain enemies. We could do this via commands. It makes sense. Doesn't it? We could aim using our mouse if we had this! Click on the screen, and the projectile fires in the direction the mouse clicked at.
