I thought of a cool underwater obstacle, a whirlpool that pulls players and enemies into it.

General Discussion / Update the games for 9.0?
« on: February 18, 2021, 12:16:26 AM »
I was pleasantly surprised to find out the release of PB 9.0. It's been a joy to work with on new project files because of all the new features. However, this has its drawbacks. Most of the games on explore are ruined.

The most notable hurdle is the difference in distances. Sometimes you can hardly see what's going on because it's too small. Title screens are always ruined. There are, however, more problems. For instance, not every game works at 60 FPS, which would be ideal. In fact, mine isn't. It also had a bunch of weird problems...

  • IGP's beginning cutscene doesn't look very good. The character is cut off most of the time, and the 'Forest1' background switches from the new design to old, when text sprites appear. Bizzare.
  • CBS's visuals look great, it runs better than I remembered, but currently it's unplayable. You can't see anything.

This is what I'm talking about, we should update our games to at least work with 9.0. Especially the Featured games. I know it can be annoying to bother with, but this just isn't a good look and it could alienate new users.

Cheers.
;)

Completed Sandbox Levels / Sneaking past Trexes
« on: November 20, 2020, 11:52:10 PM »
Description:
You take part in a grand heist operation against the race of Trexes. The conflict between these two have standed for generations...
Ahh, forget it. Focus on your plan, sneak past them.

Hello! It's been a while since I published anything. Probably too long.
This sandbox was part of a different project, but since that went kind of stagnent, I decided to make it public now.

It's a short level made in stealth-type gameplay. You have to find all three keys to escape the lare - but beware Trexes. They are vigilant, and one bad move can ruin your run. Defend against them with a gun. Count your bullets, you only have eight.

Suggestions / Keyboard Typing SFX
« on: May 30, 2020, 09:37:07 PM »
this is a random suggestion, it's something that stuck out to me when trying out Opera GX.
my suggestion is a new builder sound effect, keyboard typing. they'd play on every keystroke when typing text messages or commands. they wouldn't play in any other instances, e.g. performing a shortcut.

Tutorials / Efficient Tiling
« on: November 18, 2019, 08:34:27 PM »
In this little guide, I will take you through essentials for tiling in Platform Builder.
Tiling is a crucial skill to master, as not understanding how it works can result in confusion, wasted time, and frustration.
Let's begin!  ;D

I | TYPES OF TILES

First off, let's examine what types of tiles we have to work with.

  • Unlike solid tiles, you can walk through semi-solids. You can jump on them from below, but you can't drop down them.
  • Solid tiles are self-explanatory. They're going to be your base building material.
  • Slopes are a great tool to make your levels more interesting. Try not to overdo them, leave some flat surface for better platforming.
  • Exp. semi-solids allow you to make platforms or pillars quickly.
  • You'll probably find Solid Rounded kind the least useful. They can work as floating islands. Don't use them as your main floor (beneath the pit).
  • Use this exclusively for filling in empty spaces.
  • Work similarly to Solid Rounded, but are open from the bottom. If you want to make quick foundations, use these.

II | SMART TOOL

To use your smart tool, click on the button or use this shortcut: Z.

This tool automatically matches tiles when you place them, trying to give the best result.
That way you don't have to constantly swap between different pieces,
and it saves loads of time compared to placing them manually.

SMART OFF                           SMART ON

Smart tool is great and all, but use it with caution. To use Smart effectively, you need to know when to turn it off.

Do not use Smart when solids and semi-solids are next to each other, otherwise it might break.
In this instance, you need to turn Smart off and place your pieces manually.

When making slopes, make sure to choose a slope tile (it doesn't matter which one).
Don't place more than three tiles in a row, because it will break.

NOTE: This topic is not finished. I'll finish it later, so keep waiting. :)

Works in Progress / Mindez Project
« on: November 10, 2019, 07:06:41 PM »
Have you ever thought what it takes to be the best?
What do you have to do to achieve glory?
It's not as straight-forward as we sometimes imagine...

That's why sometimes we just like to take a seat, relax and scribble around some nonsense on our canvas.
Allow me to introduce... Mindez Project, created by Gizgord and Zdziefan.

Our combined efforts are bound to make you smile, or chuckle... we hope.

We're still undecided on this game, we're going to either continue or discontinue this project.
Make sure to say Hi to our second developer, Zdziefan. This would not exist without him, obviously. :)

Suggestions / New jump text command
« on: November 04, 2019, 08:10:10 PM »
currently, you can't change color of jump text using commands.
you can work around this by making a custom item, but it'd be nice to have more options.

Suggestions / Custom tile limitation
« on: October 26, 2019, 10:01:13 PM »
could we get an option to restrict placing custom tiles to be only one per space?
it's very easy to accidentally place more tiles than you wanted, and that's not ideal.

Collaboration / Platform Builder Movie
« on: September 25, 2019, 05:14:22 PM »
I know this sounds corny, but hear me out.

what if we made a little movie together?
we'd try to develop a story, figure out fun settings and write some dialogue together. afterwards, these ideas would be recreated in PB by yours truly. :)

could be fun? I'm curious to hear your responses

I thought it'd be cool to have horizontal gates,  hanging from the ground. maybe you'd unlock them by ducking?

I don't think this was suggested yet.
it would be nice to change your item box layout on the fly.
