Introductions / Re: Oh...hi guys...it's been a minute
« on: November 14, 2022, 01:44:57 PM »
 :'( Long time no see.

Pursuing 3D, right? I'm happy that you do. I was happy about it way back when you first started sharing your models and renders.

Considering Godot? Fair enough. You'll be better off when you get good at it. As for me, PB is just a side-hobby, I'm not actually interested in game development.
I just want you to know that you canceling ASM is not a big deal. Really, PB is a side hustle to everyone of us. Don't beat yourself up about it, use it as a learning experience: in how to manage the scope of a project. Consume other media as to not skew/limit your viewpoints and find more inspiration. Manage expectations to your ability and available time... and so on.
You've grown to dislike your old stuff, calling them cringy. I'm not saying they weren't  :-X, that's your call to make. But... would you be in this position, still doing 3D, if it wasn't for them?

My favourite logo variant is the second last.

Completed Games / Level Mayhem sees another pre-release
« on: November 09, 2022, 01:01:03 AM »
Hey everyone, Level Mayhem is entering an another pre-release update: pre1.4(2). You can play it right now on Explore!  8) 8)
There is a lot of differences between this version and the first pre1.4, so I'm gonna keep it brief.

What's included:
  • new level lay-outs are nearly finalised
  • new custom pause menu and improved camera settings
  • abilities are now unlocked with Tokens and can be toggled
  • all bosses have received a major rework
  • addressed bugs

What's missing:
  • most Token tips (are missing)
  • remaining purchasable designs
  • the village is not yet finished
  • NPC characters and interactions (too little)
  • the 'secret' mission

hey, just wanted to let everyone know I temporarily took this sandbox down. I'll be revamping it with an easier, more reliable inventory system. ;)

I recommend trying the first demo to everyone. the game is very good and there's plenty of content (even at this stage).  O:-)

the new enemies are quite creative, and they look good - as per. bulldozer is a fun concept, never crossed my mind as an enemy.  :o
sketching on paper is the best, isn't it?
I really want this game to come out well, keep us in touch  O:-)

General Discussion / Re: Creating a Skip Level Item
« on: October 22, 2022, 10:38:01 PM »
NPC's have special appearance settings. it goes something like.. always, until talk and until course complete. try changing that.

as for the item... your solution to add a conditional check is valid. I use a similar process. here's what I would do..
in the same prompt that's used to skip the level, write "game var skip=1". run this command near the end of your course as well, with an invisible <-> command block. just so you don't miss it.
I don't know why your item wasn't destroyed.. make sure to run the command when the item is in view. maybe try a different command? kill item, destroy item, delete item, clear item
by the way, your use of syntax is valid. {} are for conditionals and [] are for delay commands and reading variable value. although you don't need brackets for a singular command line.

Completed Sandbox Levels / Simple Inventory Menu Template

A simple inventory menu system to get you started. Most commands are explained with comments.

Feel free to import this sandbox to your games!

General Discussion / Re: Questions before purchase
« on: October 18, 2022, 12:02:57 AM »
hello Leon, I'm sorry you couldn't reach anyone on Steam. to quickly answer your questions:

1) you can choose to save game progress for every completed course, castle or world. there's also a command which allows you to save anytime
2) there is a shopping system in the engine. as for inventory, it's not a built-in feature and it is convoluted to implement, but it's possible. it would require the use of variables.
3) yes
4) no, legdes are not grabbable
5) you can modify player psychics (speed, jump height, wall traction etc.), as well as some values like health, ammo or air (time spent underwater). other values (hunger, thirst) are not bulit in. similarly, you could implement them as variables but it would take some time
6) yes. there is a setting that allows you just that
7) NPC settings allow up to 10 different messages. you could also convey dialogue with different types of in-game text. missions/quests are possible, I'm implementing them in my game.
8 ) yes and yes. mouse inputs can be recorded in Character's Command Prompt settings
9) aside from area-bound particles (rain, snow and thunder), every item special effect can be used.
10) no. lenses as well as some other assets will be removed from your executable exports. the engine will let you know which, with a small circled exclamation mark. lenses don't really have a replacement (sorry).
11) we have a Discord server
https://discord.gg/JGq2mv5

My answers were only surface level, let me know if something's not clear. I'm happy to help :))

Welcome to the forums, ZANARD!
That's surprising news, to be honest.  :)  This message from you made me log into Steam and run PB just to see if it is so and really, my game is actually very playable yet. That made me wish to rework my project again as it may have not much to do to restore its previous form. I don't know if I am able to do this soon yet... But thanks for your suggestion for my project also!
hey Alley, nice to hear from you  :D
no problem. as for the rework.. go for it, whenever you can. there's no rush

Thinking I'll make a few more levels and graphics - get the game about 1/3 done, to my estimation - and put a demo up on the explore section. It's just that I'm getting a lot of crashing on entering or exiting levels when testing the whole game. Not sure if that's something I'm doing wrong or my computer, or if it's an actual bug.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think of the new stuff; hopefully I'll have something playable released soon!
I dig the new stuff, especially the variety in enemies and tile-sets. I like overworlds and the one you're making is really good so far. eight levels are plenty for a demo, and what was it about branching paths? fun idea.
it's unfortunate that fatal errors keep bothering you. all you can do right now is to report the codes (paste the codes in, that makes things a lot easier), either in the form on the website or here.. and power through. big thumbs up, good luck and take your time  :D

Suggestions / "return to overworld" command
« on: September 18, 2022, 07:05:57 PM »
a "return to overworld" command. I'm using a custom menu as my pause menu, and noticed there isn't a good replacement for a "Return to Overworld" button.

for the time being I'm just killing both players, but that takes a long time.
instant level complete doesn't work for me
theoretically I could use "world x, x".. but that would make for a messy overworld, with two player ID's in the overworld for every area, I don't want to do that

Suggestions / level complete and game over command prompts
« on: September 18, 2022, 06:56:03 PM »
I thought of command prompts activating after Level Complete and (in lesser extend) dying or Game Over screen
