Completed Games / Re: Grandmaknapped!
« on: December 16, 2018, 02:17:22 PM »
Thank you guys! I really appreciate the feedback. And you're right Alley, all the cousins are pretty evil. They're actually supposed to represent the seven deadly sins, so there's Glutton (gluttony), Sleepy (Sloth), Jelly (Envy/Jealousy), Mimi (Pride), Stingy (Greed), ...and I'm still working on names for the last two.

Also I really like your suggestions. Having a more extensive stage 1 in Grandma's forest/house would develop her character better. I think if I have her spawn outside of the house once the player has collected all of the candy, and then they walk to the house together using a timeline, I could change the location when they reach the door without ever interacting with the door object itself. It wouldn't make the opening/closing animation but I could mimic the sound in the timeline, it'd be close enough I think.

Thanks for noticing that about the sprekers and frenzies, I'll make an update so they behave lol. I also have an issue where the Jellis (octopus enemy) will escape the water in level 3 and jump around in the air... its a work in progress lol

Haha thanks! I didn't make it in just one day though. In total, between learning PB, overcoming some tech issues and actually building the game and polishing, it took about 5 days :)

Your beloved grandmother has been grandmaknapped by your evil cousins!
You must defeat your cousins and rescue your grandma, before they steal her secret recipes.

Thats understandable. What he has made so far is pretty amazing though! Is he working all by himself on this? Or does he have a team?

I feel like there probably is some kind of code for that for the pre-built enemies, since some of them change behavior when they see the character (the porcupricks and the little red bugs). Exposing that function to custom enemies would be super cool though :)

Working with Platform Builder / Coins at checkpoint: work-around exploit?
« on: December 14, 2018, 11:08:58 PM »
I was wondering if there is a way to set the player's coins back to what they were at the last checkpoint.
Right now, if I hit a checkpoint with 10 coins, go collect 50 more coins and then die, then I respawn at the checkpoint with 60 coins, and I can go collect all those coins again for a total of 110. Depending on how many lives I have, I can exploit the system and get super rich too quickly lol.

Is there some code I can put into the looping section to fix it?

Working with Platform Builder / Custom enemy from base enemy behavior?
« on: December 14, 2018, 08:35:50 PM »
I'm trying to make the porcupricks reverse at ledges and not fall off, but that's the only behavior I'm trying to change.
When I create a custom enemy, there isn't a place to input commands for when the enemy sees the player, and they just walk around as if they haven't seen him.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Introductions / Re: Nice to meet everybody :)

Wow, nice to meet all of you! And yes I'm female lol. I know its a little surprising. Our university population is low in females too, but we're getting more. I imagine it must be similar in the game industry.

And I will definitely post a demo soon :) I'm almost done with the first 3 levels. Its the end of our semester in a few days, so they should be up by then. And there aren't any custom sprites in it yet @Christian Game Maker, I'm just getting it functional right now. When I go back and polish everything, I'd love to put in some custom content :)

Those groups sound awesome, I'll be sure to join on so we can stay connected.

Again, really nice meeting you all!

Hey there! My name is Lyndsey, and I'm new to Platform Builder and I'm having a blast with it.
I am a triple major at UAT in Game Design, Game Art & Animation, and Game Programming.
(Previously my background was in German language K-12, so if anyone wants to practice some Deutsch, hit me up :) )

I just recently started using PB for a project I have going in one of my classes. I'll be sure to post the finished version when its done!

Working with Platform Builder / Re: Customize Lava?

Nice to meet you Alley! I'll be sure to check out both of your games. And yes, I do hope to be a regular around here. This thing is amazing.
I had some trouble with the forum when I was registering where it throw an error and not allow me to join, which is maybe why there aren't as many people around? The admin was nice enough to make an account for me.

Do either of you know if there is a way to make human NPCs hostile? I'm trying to create a human enemy for a boss fight.

Thanks for your help, and nice to meet you! Yes, I did learn about PB through steam. I'm currently using it for a college project I'm working on (Game Design major), and I'm really loving it so far. I'll be sure to publish it once its finished so you can give it a go! It's called "Grandmaknapped" lol. Have you published anything  yet?

Working with Platform Builder / Customize Lava?

I was wondering how to customize the lava? I want it to behave the same, but just colorize it green. I've tried custom item and custom block, but it can't be reached that way. Thanks!
