Policy about Imported Sprites
« on: August 23, 2018, 12:01:05 PM »
Hello, I am Diovani and I am new here.

Before starting a project in Platform Builder, i want to know about the policy for imported sprites.

Can I to use sprites from NES/SNES games to created a game in PB, giving the right credits for the sprites?

Exemple: Using Zelda II (NES) sprites in Platform Builder.

I want to know it because I have some ideas for games but I don't want to cancel a project because I am not allowed to use others games sprites.

Sorry! Nothing from Nintendo is allowed unless they gave it to us to use. Which... I don't they've given anything. I'm not the best graphic artist, but I think I can help you with sprites. Certain games like Zelda aren't my thing. So, if you want Zelda, you can look somewhere else. I can make Mario sprites if you need, and Mario games are easy to make if you know what to do.

Thanks to inform me about this. Yes, Mario Games sprites are easy to do, because their simple. I don't have much talent with sprites creation, but I will it give a chance. Thanks for the help. If I need help with sprite creating, I will ask you. ^^

Games with copy-written resources are not permitted to be published through Platform Builder or myself. But I don't really care what you choose to make on your own and share with others.

Understood! I believe I can create something... I am not that good creating sprites, but I can try draw in a paper and then recreate my drawing.

That looks better than I could do! I think you do have art in your blood... Unless someone else made that.

I did that. I drew the first one using a pencil and I scanned the drawing. Then, I used Corel Draw to make the 2nd drawing, I colored it to make the 3rd one and then changed a little bit to make the 4th one.
I work with Corel Draw, so it's hard for me.

I had a feeling that's the process you did to do that. It's pretty good art for someone who thinks they aren't good with graphics. I think you could learn to be a good graphic artist. I use paint.net. Occasionally I use Game Maker Studio 2.

here's my advice - take your scanned drawing to a picture editing software (that supports layers), lower its opacity and crop it (character sprites are 48x48 if I'm not wrong). then draw over it on a new layer with a pixel brush, then refine.

That's a good idea. Thanks.
