Yeah, I agree.
Mario Forever is quite unique. There's also something I like about it that I can't really describe without it sounding a little odd. It has an early fangame feel too it, for example, the interface. It's made up of some bright colo(u)rs, but a lot of beige. The sound effects are echo-y and low-quality/off at times, but that just adds to the charm. The overworld/map music screams early millennial internet days, with its techno-y beats, slowly building up into something great. The map music would also seem like it would never fit with classic 2D Mario, but it somehow works, in my opinion, due to it being a fangame. The icon for the game is just the SMAS Mario 1 sprite but smoothed out with a pixel filter, plus a silver background that actually looks quirky but wonderful. And, oh my gosh, the sound effects. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about
Or, you probably don't, and you're finding me really weird right now...
Sorry about that, I just feel like I had to express something different, that I like about this game.
Anyway, I agree with what you said about Mario Worker. While it's a
good, level editor, it's rather clunky like a lot of older Mario level editors. It's additionally can be quite limited. It's not terrible, I actually quite like it, I just much prefer things like... Oh, I don't know...
Platform Builder However, fans have improved the game -and Mario Forever- a lot (Like you said). The games are much more polished now, I would recommend Mario Forever Remake above any other version, even though it's still in development (I think). Plus, it comes bundled with Mario Worker! Yay! I love having to download fewer things!
To Christian Game makerI don't think Alley made Mario Forever
I believe he was talking about "Mario Worker" when talking about making Mario Forever styled games. Mario Worker is an application/game where you can make your own levels and worlds (and games, I think), in the style of Mario Forever, with the same engine. It's basically Mario Builder, but with a very different interface, and with the Mario Forever engine and style.
Wow, that was long!
